Loran Blood

85 days, indeterminate — 'Loran Blood' is important as a Verticillium wilt resistant tomato variety. It was used as one of the parents to many subsequent disease resistant varieties.[1,2,3] The regular leaf vines produce good amounts of red-colored, flattened-globe to oblate shaped, fruit that can weigh up to one pound each. There is wide variation in fruit size on the plants throughout the season.

Introduced in 1952[1] by the Utah Agricultural Experiment Station and named in recognition of the three decades of exploration, research, and breeding work accomplished by Dr. H. Loran Blood. 'Loran Blood' possesses resistance to Verticillium wilt identified by a gene labeled "Ve." This Ve gene was bred into many other later tomato varieties using 'Loran Blood' as the source.[1,2,3]

Our seed is grown out from USDA accession number PI 270234 which was donated to the collection by the Utah A.E.S. on December 7, 1960. Each packet contains approximately 20 seeds.
