80 days — 'Long Purple' is an Italian-type eggplant. The plants reach twenty-four to thirty inches tall and produce four or more fruit that are dark purple, two and one-half inches in diameter and eight to ten inches in length. Each packet contains 0.25 gram, which is approximately 25 seeds.
Planting Instructions: This is a tropical plant and needs warm weather to thrive. A warm growing season of 100 days or more is optimal. They do best in fertile soil with a pH of 5.5 to 6.8.

Start seeds indoors eight weeks prior to transplanting. Sow ¼ inch deep in sterile potting mix. Keep moist. Germination temperature is near 80ºF.

Harden off plants before transplanting outside but make sure they are above 60ºF. After the night temperatures are above 55ºF, transplant 12 to 18 inches apart in rows three feet apart.

Harvest the fruit when they are young as they get seedy with age.

★★★★☆ Hard to grow
By Jolene Pirrone on March 1, 2014

These are nice, tender egg plants. The plants produce a lot of fruit - it doesn't seem possible considering the size of the plant itself. Unfortunately, they are temperature sensitive. They need warm conditions to germinate in the spring. Then are sensitive to very hot weather if they are not watered well - they will drop flowers. I believe this is true for all egg plants, so do your research before trying to grow these. Worth the effort!

★★★★★ Great producer and tastes wonderful!

I have grown this eggplant two years in a row & couldn't be happier! I've had no pest problems & I don't use any chemicals on my veggies. It's a great producer, requires little maintenance and tastes wonderful! The size is perfect for my needs. Will definitely grow this year after year.
