60 days to maturity. King Arthur Bell Pepper was formerly sold as Fat 'N Sassy. It produces blocky, 4-lobed peppers that measure about 4.5 by 4.5 inches. The peppers have thick walls and sweet, crunchy flesh. They start out deep green and ripen to bright red. Their large size makes them a suitable choice for stuffing, grilling, and roasting, or for cutting into big slices for salads, stir-fries, and fajitas.
It resists Bacterial Leaf Spot and Potato Virus Y. The plants are upright and vigorous and grow to about 22 inches tall. They set fruit well in heat and grow thick foliage that shades the peppers and helps prevent sunscald. Since the plants often carry a heavy load of large peppers, a stake or cage helps keep them upright. King Arthur grows well in both garden beds and large containers.

Sow seeds in sterile potting mix, eight weeks prior to your last expected frost date. Plant seeds at a depth equal to two times their thickness. The optimum soil temperature is 80°F. Germination can be erratic. The most common cause of poor germination is the result of uneven planting depths.
Transplant only after night temperatures average above 55°F. Plants are tender and thrive in warm weather. Blossoms drop if temperatures fall below 60°F or if they get too much nitrogen.
