Gypsy Sweet Pepper is an a cross between a sweet Italian bull horn pepper and a bell pepper, which gives the fruit a familiar bell pepper flavor and crunch in a longer, tapered shape.
This variety won an All-America Selections award for its heavy, early production. Plants grow 18 to 24 inches tall with a 14 to 18 inch spread, and each plant can produce 50 to 100 peppers under good conditions. The fruits are wedge shaped and tapered, growing 4 to 5 inches long and about 2.5 inches wide. They start out lime green, then ripen through yellow and orange to red. The flesh is thin skinned, tender, and crunchy, with a mild, sweet flavor that becomes sweeter as the pepper ripens to red.
Gypsy peppers measure 0 Scoville heat units, so there's no spice at all. They reach maturity in about 65 days from transplant. Plants are resistant to Tobacco Mosaic Virus and tend to resist blossom end rot and other issues that commonly affect bell peppers.
