Stiff Goldenrod
Solidago rigida
Also known as Rigid Goldenrod. This native perennial can be found in prairies, meadows and open woodlands throughout the Midwestern and east-central U.S. as well as south-central Canada. It does not spread by rhizomes like many goldenrod species, making it widely adaptable for landscape and home garden use. Also recommended for conservation and pollinator plantings. Attracts honey bees, wild bees, flies, beetles and wasps. Provides late season bloom and pairs well with late-blooming, purple asters. Each packet contains 0.25 grams which is about 500 seeds.
Direct sow in late fall, pressing into the surface of the soil since this plant needs light to germinate. For spring planting, mix the seeds with moist sand and store in the refrigerator for 60 days before planting. Keep the soil lightly moist until germination.
