Nicotiana tabacum L

'Gold Dollar' is a flue-cured type of tobacco, has pretty pink flowers, and was historically used for pipe and cigarette blending. It is early maturing making it a good choice for gardeners living in areas with shorter growing seasons.
Our seed was sent to us by tobacco variety preservationist David Pendergrass of Middle Tennessee. His original source was USDA accession number PI 552310, which was donated into the tobacco seed collection by the USDA Maryland Agricultural Experiment Station in 1961.
Tobacco plants are very interesting, ornamental, and have uses apart from consumption. This section of the website is intended for the historical and informational purposes of thinking adults. Anyone who has been raised since the turn of the 20th century already knows that tobacco can be addictive and can contribute to various medical ailments. If you do not smoke, it would seem illogical to start. We in no way encourage people to use any form of tobacco product.
