60 days — This heavy yielding plant is very tasty and good for home and market. The attractive leaves are dark green, crumpled with stalks that are broad, white and of a fine quality. Introduced by the W. Atlee Burpee & Company, this is how they described it:
"As good as Spinach — Yields all Summer Long ... The rich blue-green leaves are much crinkled or savoyed, and, when fully grown, average 10 inches in width by 2-1/2 feet in length. The texture of the leaves is thick and fleshy, and their quality is highly appreciated when they are boiled. The stems or stalks are pearly white, and they measure 2-1/2 inches in width."[2]
Each packet contains one gram, which can vary from 30 to 50 seeds.

Planting Instructions: As soon as the soil can be worked in early spring, in a location that has well-drained soil and receives about eight hours of full sun daily, sow seeds ½-inch deep, every 1 to 2-inches, in rows spaced 12 to 24-inches apart.

Cover with loose soil and keep moist until seedlings appear. Water weekly after that and cultivate to control weeds. When plants are 1½ to 3-inches tall, thin plants to eight inches apart.

Start harvesting individual leaves when they are about eight inches in length. The leaves become tough with age. Although the name or description of this variety refers to a modern company's name, the seed we are offering is in no way sourced from, "owned by" or connected with that company. The name is simply the historically accurate, common name for the variety giving credit to the seedsmen that originally released it. Informational References:
