Dwarf Mocha's Cherry Tomato

Solanum lycopersicum

Price: $2.95

SKU: 3405361

65 days, dwarf — 'Dwarf Mocha's Cherry' has compact, eighteen to twenty inch tall plants with rugose regularly leaf foliage that display a purplish cast, indicative of varieties containing the anthocyanin gene. The fruit are abundant, round, small (about one ounce each), and a glossy deep purple color, some with green shoulders, that becomes nearly black when exposed to the sun. As the fruit ripen, the purple dulls, the green turns red, and they soften. The flavor is generally mild and pleasant but can be on the tart side.

The Dwarf Tomato Project's "Anthy" family was created when Craig LeHoullier crossed a high anthocyanin pink cherry tomato with indeterminate growth, shared by Marcia Dillon as unstabilized material from Tom Wagner, with 'Dwarf Saucy Mary'. Craig made some dwarf selections with purple fruit and distinct black purple shoulders in 2017. The best selection from 2018 was named 'Dwarf Mocha's Cherry'. It was further stabilized by Chan Mortimer. It was introduced by the Victory Seed Company in 2022. Each packet contains at least 20 seeds.

★★★★★ Love these tomatoes!
By Gina (Brewster, NY) on March 23, 2025

I planted these tomatoes for the first time last year and I love them! They are very strong, compact and hearty plant that produce a lot of fruit. The tomatoes are a stunning black with green and then red, a true eye catcher in the garden. They may be slow to ripen but can be picked and kept in the house to ripen, I put them with a banana to help with this process. The tomatoes are sweet full bodied. I dug one of the plants up out of my garden at the end of the season last year and overwintered it in my basement, it even produced some fruit! I will be planting this variety again in my garden and also in a demonstration garden I am involved with.

I have grown these tomatoes for the past two seasons. This year I used some to make some salsa and it turned out wonderful. The tomatoes are very meaty, full of flavor and seam to be disease resistant.

★★★★☆ a unique, compact tomato machine.

This tomato starts blooming and setting fruit very early. The clusters of round cherry tomatoes develop a nearly black blue pigmentation where exposed to the sun, due to the anthocyanin pigment gene that was bred into the family. The. tomatoes actually ripen dusky rose purple. The flavor is mild, lightly sweet, and tasty. This is a real attention getter when tossed into salads.
