SKU: 3405271I started my Kodiak tomato indoors on January 22. I live at 5600 elevation in the New Mexico desert. It is very hot, dry and windy. It takes a sturdy plant to handle the outdoors. Most of my plants are in shade protected enclosures. However this Kodiak is on a patio exposed to the elements. I picked my first Kodiak tomato today (June 13th). It weighed in at 6 ounces and there more tomatoes on the plant. The taste was wonderful. I did save half for my husband.
These tomato plants grew well & were stout & strong little plants, with great potential. I had high hopes for them when a deer broke into the fenced yard and ate them. Two had a small leaf left, they eventually sprouted more but were not able to recover. I intend to try again this year & hope we can keep the deer out!
If tomatoes like Burpee's Big Boy or Whopper were grown on dwarf plants, this is what the tomatoes would look and taste like. The plant is quite dense, and the medium to large mostly round tomatoes are scarlet red. The flavor is - well, old fashioned - a nice bit of tang in with the rich balanced flavor.
