Dwarf Crimson Sockeye Open Source Seed Initiative

90 days, dwarf — 'Dwarf Crimson Sockeye' is a rugose, regular leaf variety that produces large yields of medium (four to ten ounce) tomatoes. The fruit are smooth-skinned with slightly-ribbed shoulders, oblate in shape, with a well-balanced flavor.

As their name implies, the underlying color is that of a pink fruit but like pink fruit in the black-fruited category, they retain varying degrees of chlorophyll giving them a richer, darker pink exterior color made obvious when slicing them open. And although this variety has appeared quite stable and consistent for us, we have seen other vendors offering 'Dwarf Crimson Sockeye' that appears to be a throwback to it's 'Rosella Purple' parentage.

Developed by members of the "Dwarf Tomato Project" this variety originated from a cross between 'Rosella Purple' and 'Pink Berkeley Tie Dye.'  'Dwarf Crimson Sockeye' was first bred by Patrina Nuske Small in 2009 and named "Tidy." It was then developed, selected, and named by Ted Maiden with Sue Bailey. It was introduced for the 2016 gardening season. Each packet contains approximately 20 seeds.

★★★★★ This is one of the more productive of the DTP varieties - and tasty, too!
By Craig LeHoullier (Hendersonville, NC) on September 6, 2023

I committed to growing many of the dwarf releases that I'd not yet gotten around to (as the project leader). I am glad that Willa finally found a place in my garden. It yielded quite early and very heavily, with lots of very tasty pink tomatoes. It was a big success in my 2023 garden.

★★★★★ So pretty and tasty!

Loved this pretty tomato. I did have some branches break after a sever storm so I suggest some staking. Amazing flavor and a great grower for me.

★★★★★ Early and delicious!

The first of 35 dwarf varieties to ripen my 2017 garden. Full and delicious flavor. My first five tomatoes have been in the 4 to 6 ounce range.
