73 days — 'Danvers 126' does well in most soils. The roots are uniform orange-red in color and seven to eight inches long. The plant tops are large, reaching about fifteen inches, and are heat tolerant. Developed for home and market growers. Good for fresh eating as well as for canning and processing.

Bred by the Eastern States Farmers Exchange, West Springfield, Massachusetts from selections of heat resistant strains of 'Danvers' and improved for better interior color, smoother skin, better uniformity and better yield. Released in 1947.[1,2]

The original parent, simply named 'Danvers', was developed by carrot growers in the Danvers, Massachussetts area and first listed commercially in the 1871 Schlegel, Everett & Company's seed annual.[1] Each packet contains one gram, which is approximately 650 seeds.
Planting Instructions: Loosen rich, well-drained soil to a depth of one foot, in a location that receives 6 to 8 hours of full sunlight per day.

Plant outdoors in spring as soon as the ground can be worked. Plant seeds ¼ inch deep, ½ inches apart in rows that are spaced 12 to 18 inches apart.

Keep moist until germination. Thin to 1 to 2 inches apart after the seedlings are 1½ inches tall.

Water as required and keep soil cultivated to control weeds.

This is my go-to carrot. I have tried others with no real complaints, but this variety never disappoints. I plant in late fall as most of the time our winters are mild. They tend to take longer than 73 days because of that, but once Spring gets here, they take off. Harvested this year in late April (4/2016).

I picked my first carrots on 7-7-14 after planting them on April 21st. These are really nice carrots and are just like what the picture shows except they are longer than those shown. They have a real nice carrot taste. The weather conditions here favored carrots this year. It was cool early and lots of moisture thru the whole growing season. I will plant these again. Thanks Victory Seeds for offering this heirloom seed. Jerry
