Cooper's Special

90 days, semi-determinate — The attractive plants provide good leaf coverage for the medium sized (three to nine ounce), globe-shaped, smooth skinned, beautifully pink fruit. It became a popular variety with Florida tomato farmers due both to its relatively compact plant growth habit as well as the ability to ship the fruit great distances thus opening other markets.

Introduced about 1923 by Dr. C. D. Cooper, a farmer near Fort Lauderdale, Florida. It was found as a chance seedling by Bert Croft in Florida in 1914. Our parent stock originated from the USDA, ARS accession number PI 199236. Because of its interesting "self-topping" habit, 'Cooper's Special' was selected as one of the parents in the development of the 'Pritchard' tomato. Each packet contains approximately 20 seeds.
