Carolina Amethyst Bell Pepper

Capsicum annuum

Price: $4.25

SKU: 3310321

70 days - 'Carolina Amethyst' (formerly referred to as 'Amethyst') is a very productive bell-type pepper. The plants are very compact and sturdy and really do not require any support. However, if you don't keep them picked and the plants are allowed to become laden with fruit, they do benefit from some late season support.

The bell-shaped fruit are blocky and average about four inches by four inches. They start off as a beautiful pale ivory color and very quickly, as implied by their namesake gemstone, change to hues that range from lilac to deep purple at harvest stage. If allowed to remain on the plants, for example to save seed, they eventually turn to a mottled, orange-red.

'Carolina Amethyst' was bred by Craig LeHoullier and introduced by the Victory Seed Company in 2017.
Sow seeds in sterile potting mix, eight weeks prior to your last expected frost date. Plant seeds at a depth equal to two times their thickness. The optimum soil temperature is 80°F. Germination can be erratic. The most common cause of poor germination is the result of uneven planting depths.

Transplant only after night temperatures average above 55°F. Plants are tender and thrive in warm weather. Blossoms drop if temperatures fall below 60°F or if they get too much nitrogen.

★★★★★ Excellent results -prolific

The Carolina Amethyst seeds I sowed this year were quick to germinate and grew well. Plants have beautiful purple peppers and many clustered on each plant. Very pleased. Will grow again in 2024. Photo included.

★★★★★ Prolific is an Understatement

This pepper is not only beautiful, but it is extremely prolific! I can barely keep up with the number of peppers, from just one plant. The peppers aren't large (two to three inches), and they aren't meaty , but they make fantastic stuffed peppers. Everyone I have shown this pepper thinks it's gorgeous (and I do too).
