55 to 60 days — 'Buttercrunch' is a bibb-type lettuce that is long standing (slow to bolt), heat tolerant, and dark green with reddish tints. Its large heads are rosette shaped with thick leaves. Bred and introduced by Cornell University in 1963,[1] 'Buttercrunch' was an "All-America Selection®" winner that same year. Each packet contains one gram, which is approximately 500 to 600 seeds.

Planting Instructions: Lettuce and other greens thrive in cool spring and fall weather (50° F to 60° F). A few greens can handle summer heat, but most of them prefer the cooler temperatures of spring and fall. Most lettuce and greens can withstand occasional exposure to light frost but if very cold weather is coming, protect your plants with a frost cover.

Sowing: Prepare the seedbed outdoors using a hard tined rake, smoothening out the soil. Lightly sow and just barely cover the seeds with soil. Keep soil moist until germination is achieved. You can also start seeds indoors by sowing into seed starting trays using fresh new seed starting potting mix into clean seed starting trays. Just barely cover the seeds and keep well watered until they sprout. Harden off and transplant into the garden after about 3 weeks.

I grew a row of buttercrunch and all-the-year-round from direct seed last fall and it produced great up through the first couple frosts. I planted in mid-august after my summer squash played out and enjoyed until early December. I still have some seed left and look forward to growing a larger patch this fall. Great value and germination rates.

Good lettuce. Grew well right along with my 'Black Seeded Simpson'. Slow to bolt. Nice, dark-green, flat leaves. It is setting seed for me at the moment for next year.
Reply from Victory Seed Company at 8/21/2013:
Thank you for the report, Michael. I just want to point out to other seed savers that although some reports state that lettuce varieties do not readily cross, separating varieties by 25 feet or caging is recommended to maintain purity. ~Mike
