Golden Dwarf Champion
(Burpee's Golden Dwarf Champion)

90 days, dwarf — Very attractive plants with rugose leaves. The fruit are a nice bright lemon-yellow with firm, lighter yellow flesh. They weigh from two to five ounces and are globe-shaped. Very productive.

The 1899 W. Atlee Burpee Seed Annual described that the original seed was sent to them by a customer in about 1896. They described 'Golden Dwarf Champion as follows:
"In dwarf, compact habit of growth and crumpled foliage [rugose leaves] the plant is an exact counterpart of the well-known Dwarf Champion, but the large, handsome fruit are of a beautiful lemon-yellow color, very solid, and of unusually fine flavor and more productive. Never before have we had a yellow Tomato that was so large solid, and fine flavored. The handsome, large, lemon-yellow fruit are always meaty and of excellent flavor, being free from any acidity. They are very desirable for slicing and most showy when served on the table, either alone or in connection with slices of a good red tomato. They are also desirable for cooking in any way, but specially for making "Tomato Butter" and other preserves, as their beautiful color, when preserved for winter use, makes them most attractive."
It was introduced in 1898. Our original seed was from USDA accession number PI 339943 received in 2002 and grown out in 2003. Each packet contains approximately 20 seeds.

Although the name or description of this variety refers to a modern company's name, the seed we are offering is in no way sourced from, "owned by" or connected with that company. The name is simply the historically accurate, common name for the variety giving credit to the seedsmen that originally released it.

I wasn't expecting to like this tomato as much as I do and everyone else I've given them to. I only planted one and so disappointed I didn't plant five! These tomatoes are mild with a very nice flavor. My grandson says they're his favorite and to save every single one for him. These will be in my garden next year for sure.
