Big Bertha F1 is a hybrid sweet bell pepper with extra-large, elongated fruit. The peppers commonly reach 7 inches long and 4 inches wide, and some grow up to 8 inches long. Each fruit is smooth, firm, and blocky, with 3 to 4 lobes and thick, crisp walls. The peppers ripen from dark green to glossy red, and they are ready in about 70 days from transplant. You can pick them green or leave them on the plant to turn red.
Big Bertha has a mild, sweet flavor with no heat. The fruits have few seeds. Due to their size and thick walls make them an excellent choice for stuffed peppers. They also work well raw in salads and on sandwiches. Peppers that ripen fully on the plant turn red and have the most nutrients.

Sow seeds in sterile potting mix, eight weeks prior to your last expected frost date. Plant seeds at a depth equal to two times their thickness. The optimum soil temperature is 80°F. Germination can be erratic. The most common cause of poor germination is the result of uneven planting depths.
Transplant only after night temperatures average above 55°F. Plants are tender and thrive in warm weather. Blossoms drop if temperatures fall below 60°F or if they get too much nitrogen.
