Sow seeds indoors 8 weeks before your last frost date. Plant under growlights or in a sunny window about 1/4 inch deep, in flats or small pots using sterile seed starting material. Water lightly and keep consistently moist until germination occurs within 2 weeks. If the seeds dry out after they are sown, they will die. You can cover the pots with a plastic bag to help maintain the soil moisture but be sure to remove once plants appear.
Transplant after all danger of frost is gone. Easy to grow. Prefers warm weather in full sun with very well-drained soil. Can even be grown in dry and stony soil.

Gardners, if you are bugged by the leaf footed nymph this plant is a game changer. This is the bug that you see in three different stages, and they suck on tomatoes, pomegranate, Southern peas,...any thing soft enough with seeds. Ashwagandha is the perfect trap crop. It may need two seasons to be totally effective depending on planting. It will flower and fruit before during, and after tomatoes.(Be sure to kill the bugs on the ashwagandha) First year no leaf foot damage to peas or tomatoes since they were introduced around time of crazy ants. Just mulch and leave it alone.
