Arugula is a spicy flavored plant that has been grown as a salad green in Europe for centuries. All parts of the plant are edible and harvest is enjoyed over a long period of time as a "cut and come again" type of crop. Arugula is typically ready to harvest in thirty to forty days.

It is also known as rocket or roquette and is popular in Italian cuisine. Its interesting flavor makes it a nice addition to soups and sauces when puréed with other herbs like sorrel and garlic.

Thrives in cool weather so plant successive sowings, early in the spring and into the summer. Each packet contains 1 gram, which is approximately 300 seeds.
Days to germination – 5 to 7 days Days to harvest – 30 to 40 days

It prefers cool weather so start sowing successive plantings directly in the garden as soon as the soil can be worked in the spring. Also try an early to mid-fall planting in a cold frame or greenhouse for harvest throughout the winter.

Sow seed ¼ inch deep in a location that receives full sun to partial shade. Best soil temperatures for germination is 40 to 50ºF. Sow about one inch apart thinning plants to a spacing of about six inches. Harvest when the leaves are 2 to 3 inches long.

★★★★★ Growing nicely
By Anda Corlan on January 10, 2022

The packet had around 100 seeds and the germination rate was fantastic, maybe even 100%. I planted it mid Nov in long window pots and kept them outside close to the house, but far away from bugs and ants. I put them in a greenhouse for a few nights when freezing. We started picking up leaves a few days ago, and they have the taste I know, bitter and spicy.

Very spicy, meaty, pungent flavor. Beautiful, full leaves. Beneficial bugs loved it.
