90 days, indeterminate — The regular leaf vines of 'Andrew Rahart's Jumbo Red' grow to about five feet tall and produce red, oblate shaped, eight to eighteen ounce fruit that are large, delicious, meaty and juicy, as well as sweet and tangy. Although the fruit average around one pound each, they can grow much larger.
Our seed sample was sent to us in early 2021 by Craig LeHoullier. Historical sources indicate that 'Andrew Rahart's Jumbo Red' is an Italian heirloom variety collected by Andrew Rahart, a tomato enthusiast who lived north of New York City and collected seeds form local immigrants to the area.[2] His son John (NM RA J) introduced the variety via Seed Savers Exchange yearbooks beginning in 1983. Craig reported that he obtained it from fellow seed saver, Alisdair Coyne of California (CA CO A), in 1989. Craig noted that this was one of his first heirloom tomato variety acquisitions and that, it remains "... one of his most reliable large red beefsteak type varieties in terms of health, yield, and consistent flavor." Each packet contains at least 20 seeds.
