An Dunscaja

120 days, indeterminate — The plants of 'An Dunscaja' grow thirty-four to thirty-nine inches tall, with white flowers, and pods holding two to three seeds each. The seeds are medium-sized, flattened and elongated in shape. They are tan in color with a black "saddle" that sometimes nearly encircles the entire seed. The result is that some beans look to be almost all black in color. They contain about 46% protein and 18% oil.

The USDA accession number is PI 437815 and it was originally collected in Northeast China and donated in 1979 by N. Korsakov, of the N. I. Vavilov Institute of Plant Industry. Each packet contains 25 to 30 seeds.

Planting Instructions: Soybeans are a tender plant and should be sown after all danger of frost has passed and the soil has warmed. Planting them at about the same time as corn is a good rule.

Sow seeds about one inch deep, three to four inches apart. Although you can plant in rows, they can be planted densely and allowed to form a canopy. This will help control weed growth. Soybeans are tolerant of drought and poor soil since they fix nitrogen. They will, however, benefit from fertile soil.

Soybean flowers are perfect (self-fertile) and cross pollination is almost non-existent, making saving seed easy. Allow pods to fully develop and dry on the plants.
