Indeterminate. 80 days, dwarf — 'Adelaide Festival' is a vigorous, rugose, regular leaf variety that produces fruit that are a rich purple color (clear skinned black) with green stripes that ripen to olive-gold. They are medium-sized (six to ten ounce), smooth, oblate in shape, very juicy and tender with a delicious, well-balanced flavor that is neither too tart or too sweet.

It was selected and named by Patrina Nuske Small of Australia in appreciation of the Adelaide Festival of Arts fireworks. Those who contributed to the development of 'Adelaide Festival' were Patrina, Amanda Fischer, Craig LeHoullier, Ted Maiden, Sue Bailey, Jessica Dubin, Bill Yoder, Doug Frank, and Lisa Moore. ★★★★★ Amazing Tomato
By 2ManyTomates (Western New York 5b) on August 18, 2024

Because of this tomato I will be investigating more of the dwarf varieties. The seeds germinated well. The seedlings were compact and deep green. They transplanted well. They beat the 80 day maturity date by a week. This variety was very, very productive. My first tomato was 15 ounces and the rest were 8-12. The fruit is an attractive green and red stripe. The flesh is meaty with no woody core. The taste and texture were excellent. If I have any complaint it would be that the clusters of fruit were deep inside the plant and it was often difficult to extract one without damage. Because of this I picked at the breaker point before the fruit got too soft. The plant remained healthy and continued to produce for many weeks. I will be planting this variety again and recommend it to anyone who is interested in trying a dwarf plant. It has been a long time since I got this excited about a tomato variety!

★★★★★ A beautiful and prolific dwarf
By DV (SF Bay Area) on August 4, 2024

The coloring of this tomato is so pretty. You can easily see how Pink Berkeley Tie-Dye is related. The plant itself is very compact even for a dwarf variety, but mine was absolutely loaded with fruit. The flavor was mild to start, and then became more flavorful as the season progressed. I would grow this again.

★★★★★ Keeper!
By RW (Santa Rosa CA) on September 25, 2023

This is a delicious, productive tomato that I'll grow every year from here out. This is my second year growing dwarf tomato project varieties, and my first year with Adelaide Festival. The two years have not been good tomato-growing years (cold wet spring, alternately very hot and unseasonably cool summers) and I've been impressed with the robustness and vigor of all the dwarf varieties I've tried. They have all thrived in poor conditions, and the plants are beautiful. Adelaide specifically is productive (steady yield of 6 oz fruits all season) and delicious. We've grown Cherokee Purple for years, and this tomato is a close comparison to Cherokee Purple. In fact, during this poor year, they have been tastier than the Cherokees. Also, the plant is thriving in a half wine barrel.

★★★★★ Great Tomato ! A keeper
By Chria (Seattle area) on February 5, 2023

Test out new varieties every year, trying to find what works for late cold wet springs, short dry summers, we're not the easiest region for tomatoes. This one is first on the list every year. These are strong plants and tomatoes with great flavor, by far my favorite tomato for taste. You know there good when you cut back other varieties nearby that are blocking light to the adelaide's!

★★★★★ Delicious, beautiful, and my favorite dwarf tomato
By Rebecca Drabenstott on July 7, 2022

I've grown about 10 varieties of dwarf tomatoes to date and these are far and away my favorite. They have gorgeous coloring and the taste is amazing. Adelaide Festival has earned a permanent spot in my container garden!

★★★★☆ Gorgeous color, full, rich flavor
By Craig LeHoullier on February 6, 2022

As the co-leader of the Dwarf Tomato Project, I've decided to embark on reviewing all of the ones I've grown. This one was grown when we lived in Raleigh (zone 8) in a 5 gallon grow bag, in 2016. The regular leaf dwarf growing plant yielded well and exhibited good tolerance to my typical tomato issues, early blight and septoria. First harvested fruit was 70 days from transplant, with medium sized slightly oblate tomatoes as large as 10 ounces. I found the flavor well balanced, pleasant, very good. The purple coloring overlaid with greenish stripes was eye-catching and attractive.

★★★☆☆ Just ok when under lights in pots.
By Christine Mohn on July 9, 2021

I did these under lights in pots. I cant speak for outdoor conditions. Flavor was meh, okay.

★★★☆☆ Ok, but not great for me.
By Mario DiMartino on August 19, 2019

This is a very compact plant that produces medium size tomatoes. The first few I got off the plant tasted terrible and I was ready to write this one off, but the flavor of the next few improved. The flavor is now good, but nothing to really get me too excited. Production has been just OK. I might try to grow this one again, but I have a few other dwarf plants that I want to try before I give this one another shot.

★★★★★ WONDERFUL
By Holly McReynolds on December 10, 2017

I grew in self watering grow bag lined creation pots. In a apartment deck lined apartment after selling my house after 40 years. This was my first totally container garden on an east facing wall with sun only till 2:00. This plant even survived a hit with lawn spray drift. It produced until mid Oct. Wonderful plant , strong, pretty with good fruit. I gave seedlings to several friends and they loved it also.

★★★★★ Fantastic flavor!
By Teresa Day-Fickel on May 27, 2017

This tomato is so flavorful! I have always said that my favorite tomato was Cherokee Purple but I believe this tomato is better. The plant is not as prolific as Cherokee Purple, but it is a space saving plant that can be planted in small areas. I love the flavor!
