Tiny Tim

45 days, Determinate — 'For its very small and compact plant size, 'Tiny Tim' is a heavy yielder producing clusters of fine flavored, small, globe-shaped, red colored fruit that are about one-half inch in diameter.

When grown in pots, this variety only grows ten to twelve inches tall and fourteen inches across. It may grow a bit bigger when planted directly in the garden. Can be grown as a potted plant anytime of the year. Good for small gardens, patios, or apartment dwellers. Also well suited for hydroponics cultivation.

Bred by Dr. Albert F. Yeager's breeding program and introduced by the New Hampshire Agricultural Experiment Station in 1945, it was described as, "... a very small fruited type, capable of being matured in a 5-inch pot for purposes of Christmas decorations, and not recommended for field growing."[1] Each packet contains approximately 20 seeds, and there are about 100 to 120 seeds per 0.25 gram.

★★★★★ My favorite Micro-Dwarf!
By TomatoNut (Texas) on February 11, 2024

I started it early every year in my greenhouse. Little red tomatoes taste so good! Only issue is that it can become top-heavy while it's producing so it's best to support the cute little plants. However, it's easy to fit many in a space and is 100% perfect for pots.

★★★★★ Most Excellent
By Wayne VanDamme on October 2, 2017

I grew these in five-gallon buckets. I kept seven plants for myself and gave the rest to family. The plants were easy to grow and very prolific. At one point I was getting a quart of ripe tomatoes from these seven plants every three days. Very good flavor, delicious as a snack, in garden and pasta salads, even chili and salsa. I've bought extra seed packets to give to family and friends and I will be planting these again next year.

★★★★★ Grew these in Alaska

Tiny Tim is a cool little tomato plant that produces plenty of fruits with decent flavor. I grew them in my windowsill, with the help of a bright light, when I lived in McGrath, Alaska.

★★★★★ Well worth it.
By Janet Johnson on October 16, 2016

I ordered Tiny Tim back in 2009 and did not get around to seeding it until this year, 2016. It is a wonderful little tomato. The tomatoes are in clusters and taste great. The larger sized ones tasted the best and some have more seeds in them then others. People are curious about this plant when they see it. Mine required fertilizer to grow in a pot.

★★★★★ A fantastic, highly productive little tomato.
By Mary Ann Button on March 11, 2016

The Tiny Tim is a fantastic, highly productive little tomato. True cherry size. We start them indoors around late February in our Aerogarden (hydroponics) and transplant to small pots when they are about five inches high, then to bigger pots after last frost.

Last year, they produced about three pounds of tomatoes, so many that we couldn't eat them fast enough. Great tasting. We found they'd produce a tad more tomatoes if we pruned a few leaves covering any flowers or buds. We give them away as gifts. In the Aerogarden these seeds had a 95% germination rate.

★★★★★ Love Tiny Tim!
By Karyn Smith on March 10, 2014

I've grown Tiny Tims a couple of times, both in pots and in the garden. They are perfect in a medium to smallish size pot on my back stairs. They didn't do as well in the garden. They always produce throughout the season for me and the tomatoes are delicious! I plan on planting them again this summer.

★☆☆☆☆ Very cute.
By Mark Goodman on December 17, 2013

Didn't like these much. Very cute. Only six to eight inches high. However, there was burst of eight to ten fruit and then that was it. Maybe OK if you are growing in a small place or in the house.
