65 days — The plants are upright with white flowers and pods set well above the dark green foliage making them easy to pick. The pods are six to eight inches long, medium sized, slightly curved, prolific, and green in color at the fresh shelly stage (about 65 days) and a dark straw color at the dry stage. The seeds are small, kidney-shaped, and white with an orange eye.
Originally bred by the Department of Horticulture, Texas A & M College, College Station, Texas and released in 1952. It is adapted to do well under diverse conditions but is best suited for the southern United States. Each ounce is approximately 170 seeds.

Planting Instructions:
Loosen the soil in a location that receives at least 6 to 8 hours of full sunlight per day. Add compost or fertilizer before planting and not after.
Sow seeds directly outdoors as soon as soil temperatures reach 70F. Optimal germination occurs between 75 to 95F. Plant ½ to one inch deep, 1 to 2 seeds every two inches. Keep moist until germination. Thin to one plant every 3 to 6 inches in rows spaced 24 to 36 inches apart. Irrigation is normally not necessary as they are renowned for their ability to grow under harsh conditions. For improved germination of hard seed, soak in warm water for four hours just prior to sowing.

I planted a variety of cow peas in a garden bed that was new and unamended with anything. It was literally clay on the bottom, a weed barrier of cardboard and wood chips that I threw together in the spring. These things not only grew but absolutely thrived. I haven't harvested yet but I will soon.

Planted in early June, I had great germination rate with these seeds and the plants have battled well in the Texas summer heat producing great sized peas. Will definitely use this varietal every summer.
