68 days — 'Scarlet Nantes' carrots are known for their outstanding flavor. This strain has a strong top with roots that are four to five inches long and semi-tapered in shape.

First appearing in B. K. Bliss and Sons catalog for 1870, it was developed in the vicinity of Nantes, France by selecting for desired traits from the older variety called 'Half Long Stump Rooted' carrot.[1] Each packet contains one gram, which is approximately 650 seeds.
Planting Instructions: Loosen rich, well-drained soil to a depth of one foot, in a location that receives 6 to 8 hours of full sunlight per day.

Plant outdoors in spring as soon as the ground can be worked. Plant seeds ¼ inch deep, ½ inches apart in rows that are spaced 12 to 18 inches apart.

Keep moist until germination. Thin to 1 to 2 inches apart after the seedlings are 1½ inches tall.

Water as required and keep soil cultivated to control weeds.

★★★★☆ Good Taste
By Brian Mitchell on December 29, 2018

This is a good tasting orange carrot that I quite enjoyed this past season. It should do well in a variety of conditions and is sure to please most people with its excellent flavor.

★★★★★ Easy to grow in containers ... quite delicious..
By Kelli Gross on March 5, 2017

I grew these in containers. 'Scarlet Nantes' carrots grew well for me and were quite delicious.

★★★☆☆ Great flavor, some problems
By Todd McPherren on January 29, 2017

This variety has a great flavor, but we found them to be a little fussy. They had a tiny window for ideal soil temperature, and they grew slooowly. I ended up letting a few rows overwinter, so we'll see if they rally back this spring. I might grow these again, but I'm trying some others varieties first.

★★★★★ Lazy Gardener ... Always come back to 'Scarlet Nantes'.
By Kent Sugden on January 6, 2017

A consistent yielding carrot in our highly variable climate. Does well in our clay soil and stores well. Have tried other varieties but always come back to 'Scarlet Nantes'.

I planted this in my first garden (I won't kid myself on having a green thumb) but I literally did nothing with them and they are beautiful and delicious!!
