Gold Nugget

55 days, determinate — 'Gold Nugget' produces a large amount of small, one-inch in diameter, globular, cherry-type fruit that, as its name implies, are golden-yellow colored. The regular leaf plants are compact with a potential for producing a high percentage of seedless (parthenocarpic) fruit.

Bred by Dr. James R. Baggett of Oregon State University and introduced in 1983. 'Gold Nugget', now incorrectly being called "Golden Nugget" by some vendors, is perfectly suited for the Maritime Northwest but performs well in most locations. Each packet contains approximately 20 seeds.

★★★★★ Great golden tomato
By guy (Derbyshire) on August 17, 2024

Grew 30 different varieties and 100 plants this year and these were in the top three varieties. Easy to germinate, strong growing seedlings and plants. Very early and nice 4ft high bushy plants. Grown in 10 litre pots they were prolific and over a long period, despite the cold spring and lack of sunshine. Very tasty (again in the top 3) and unlike many cherry tomatoes they were all of a similar and reasonable size. No tiny ones too small to bother with. Grew 6 plants of these and next year will be three as I can only make so much passata!

★☆☆☆☆ Disappointing
By T Jorgensen (Burnt Ranch, CA) on July 5, 2023

I had hoped that these would be comparable to our favorite Sungold cherry tomato, but they were a big disappointment. The plants were wild and prolific, sending out suckers with practically every leaf and putting on fruit like crazy--and ahead of all the others; however, that fruit was virtually tasteless compared to other varieties I've grown. I ended up pulling up the plants rather than waste time and garden space on something we didn't enjoy. I still have time to plant something else in that place.

★★★☆☆ Good

Germination and production were great. Taste was good but not exceptional in my opinion. We preferred the Ted Red Current variety (also from Victory Seeds).

★★★★★ Prolific Producers
By Caden McCorvey on August 8, 2019

I grew two of these plants and so far they have given me over three pounds of cherry tomatoes and are still producing strong!

★★★★★ Great producer
By Bobby Graham on December 31, 2017

This plant is a strong grower and a prolific producer. I was begging neighbors to take some.

★★★★★ Ripened Early and Keep Producing
By Esther Jones on August 11, 2016

These tomatoes are a beautiful golden-orange, started ripening a good three weeks before the other cherry tomatoes I planted, and are still going strong. They are also incredibly prolific producers; I planted two bushes, and have more tiny tomatoes than I can use at once. I've started giving them away to friends and family. They are sweet and full of tomato flavor; wonderful in salsa or salads. I will definitely be planting them again next year!
