Early Purple Vienna
55 days — 'Early Purple Vienna' Kohlrabi is an old, standard home garden and market variety. The skin of the bulbs have a purplish hue and the flesh is bright, greenish-white. These are best enjoyed when they are two to two and one-half inches in diameter, before they become woody.Their flavor is mild, not pungent like turnips. We enjoy them raw by simply peeling and slicing. A little salt can be sprinkled on them as desired. Additionally, the greens are used to make an excellent soup. Each packet contains one gram, which is approximately 250 seeds.

Plant is rich, moist soil as soon as soil can be worked. Keep soil constantly moist and make sure that they have plenty to eat.
Sow seed ½ inches deep, 2 inches apart, in rows 18 to 24 inches apart. Cover with loose soil. Thin plants to about six inches. Avoid disease by not planting where other Brassica (cole crops) plants have grown in the past year or two.
For continuous harvest, plant every two weeks until one month before the first fall frost. When stems are two to three inches in diameter, cut off at ground level.

These grew pretty well, which I was very happy about since it was my first time growing them. I had about a 75% germination rate which probably would have been better had I started them with some heating. Transplanted well. Beautiful purple color and a lovely delicate taste which reminded me of turnips and broccoli stems. Planting again this year!

Germination was very good, about 95%. This is my first planting of Kohl Rabi, so once I harvest, I'll return and write more.
