90 days, dwarf — Mid-late season — 'Dwarf Emerald Giant', essentially a dwarfed version of 'Green Giant', has deep green, rugose potato leaf foliage and a very stout central stem, growing to four feet, and perhaps a bit more depending upon conditions. Fruit are smooth and oblate, ranging from eight to sixteen ounces, and barely change color upon ripening - though a pale pink blossom end blush develops on many of the fruit. The flesh is bright green, and the flavor is balanced, full and delicious.
Bred and released by the "Dwarf Tomato Project", 'Dwarf Emerald Giant' originated from a cross between 'Golden Dwarf Champion' (a medium sized fruited yellow dwarf) with 'Green Giant', made in 2006 by Patrina Nuske Small in Australia. It was introduced commercially by the Victory Seed Company for the 2011 gardening season.
The variety was selected and named by Craig LeHoullier. Others involved in its development are David Lockwood (Australia), Lee Newman, Susan Anderson, Julianna Griffin (Canada), Roger Humphreys (Australia), and Bill Minkey. Although it is well past its ninth generation and is a quite stable open-pollinated variety, it still may produce the occasional off-type plant. Each packet contains about 20 seeds.

Dwarf Emerald giant is one of the best green dwarfs I've grown. It's a healthy plant that is at the top of a 4 ft cage in mid-July, and it's just dripping with huge beautiful tomatoes. It did not pack the tangy punch I was expecting, but that could be because we've had unusually frequent heavy rains this year. Those rains also helped to bring on a heavy blight infestation too, but Emerald has held up well in spite of that. The photo is not the biggest one on the plant, just the one I had left after sharing several of the ones I picked today. I would definitely recommend it if you like the green-when-ripe group. It was also earlier than I expected it to be, coming in right at 80 days for me.

100% germination rate in four days at 65F can't wait to try this tomato. Will leave another review later in the season.

It was really exciting to work on this variety. This is one of the earlier dwarfs to be named, and proved to those involved that size, flavor and quality is indeed possible on short growing dwarf plants. To my palate, it doesn't quite have the intensity of flavor that it's daddy (Green Giant) has, but tomato flavor can vary season to season. As with all of the dwarfs, I eagerly anticipate the opinions of others who try out this great new variety!
