SKU: 3402591Prolific producer of large, meaty tomatoes! Produced well despite a cool, wet spring/early summer which turned into a raging drought. By far the most productive variety I planted in 2019. Can't recommend highly enough.
I planted three plants this year. They bloomed and ripened much like the Better Boy and Celebrity plants. The fruit was a bit larger and thicker. The tomato was sweet yet good acidity. I love the meaty flesh with very few seeds. The tomatoes ripened over a much longer period as compared to the others which come to ripeness within days of each other. There are a couple of negatives. While I like the darker flesh color, the tomatoes should be harvested when slightly green at the stem. Once the top color changes, the tomato was a bit over-ripe but still very delicious but kept poorly. Those picked with a greenish top held normally. Overall - I replant more as I found them awesome I wish I could post a picture: you would not believe how meaty they are.
I'm growing these for the first time this year. Cherokee Purple has been one of my favorite tomatoes and I really like it's flavor. The Heart version has slightly wispy foliage like most heart tomatoes, but the 3 plants I'm growing are loaded with blossoms and fruit. The plants are very vigorous and healthy and started blossoming earlier than I expected them to. None of the tomatoes are ripe yet, but most are growing quite large. I expect this to be a new favorite as it is more productive than my beloved Cherokee Purple plants have ever been.
I grew this tomato the first year it was offered and found the Cherokee Purple taste true to the original, but this new variety was healthier and more vigorous for me. As a fan of heart tomatoes this one has gone to the top of my list and I will be planting it again this year!
