52 days — As its name implies, 'Purple Top White Globe' turnips develop round roots that are bright purple on the upper part, and white below. This is probably the most common turnip sold in produce stands and grocery stores throughout North America. The globes grow four to five inches in diameter, but are best when harvested a little smaller when they are sweet and tender. Each packet contains 1 gram, which is approximately 200 seeds.

Planting Instructions: Choose a location with rich well-drained soil that receives six to eight hours of full sunlight per day. Loosen to a depth of one foot and rake smooth.

Plant seeds directly outdoors in as soon as soil can be worked. Plant ½ inch deep, ½ to one inch apart. Firm soil and keep moist until seedlings appear. When plants are 1½ tall, thin so that plants are two to three inches apart in rows spaced 18 inches apart.

Water as required and keep the soil cultivated to control weeds.
