This standard kitchen garden herb is commonly used as a spice in Mexican and Italian cooking.  It adds a warm spicy flavor to recipes.

The plant is a perennial, grows fairly tall, has pink flowers and spreads by underground runners. The herb can be used fresh but is generally used after drying the leaves.
